There are a few things in life that you absolutely must know. And one of those include which Hogwarts House you belong to. As a proud Hufflepuff myself, I’d love to welcome you to my little slice of the internet. Today, I’m going to be breaking down J.K. Rowling’s series and giving you the definitive ranking (according to me anyway) of the best Harry Potter books.

Surprisingly, this can be a rather heated subject as everyone has their own and often wildly differing opinions. If you don’t agree with my list, please let me know in the comments below what you’d rank the books! I’m down for some civil debate. Just don’t get too rude or I’ll have to show you the Gryffindor!

In my opinion, Deathly Hollows is the absolute best Harry Potter book. As the last book in the series, it neatly ties together the entire story that the previous six created. For me, it’s the one that grips at my heartstrings the most. You can really feel the emotions run raw as the our trio of heroes (Harry, Ron, Hermione) make their way through the past to discover the best chance at stopping He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. And I’ve got to admit, the Battle of Hogwarts was near perfection.

My biggest gripe about this book: the epilogue. Honestly, it seemed just a rushed and sloppily thrown together. Other than that, this book was a beautiful ending for such a great story.

It was hard not to put this book at number one. Seriously. I believe this book (the sixth installment) to be the most balanced book in the entire series. You get this throwback to the earlier books through some great lighthearted moments such as the Slug Club. And Rowling really starts to explore the romance side of things here too.

But then…you dive into the darkness of the Potterverse. From the return and story behind Tom Riddle, to learning how Voldemort can be finally defeated, to the shocking plot twist within… This book is amazing.

The third book in the Harry Potter series does exactly what the second book doesn’t. It really grinds into the true nature of the characters. Prisoner of Azkaban truly laid the foundation for the rest of the series. This was also the last of the “smaller books”. With the release of Goblet of Fire (the fourth installment), the book’s page count jumped over 300 pages. And since Prisoner of Azkaban masterfully developed the basis of the characters, more could be focused on the story in future titles.

Other than just the character development, the story was phenomenal. Although this book has less direct involvement from the Dark Lord, there’s a well-defined narrative that really helps the characters mature into some of the darker elements of the subsequent novels.

Ugh. So this selection has me torn. I really wanted to put this book higher on the list. And yet, I can find a good reason to put it further down. Honestly, when compared to the other books, it just seems slow. Like the story really isn’t really moving. Sure things are happening but like at a snail’s pace.

However, that particular reason is why I want it higher. The slow logging of Order really embraces the plot. It written to be slow because that’s what going on. It’s about planning and events that will ultimately build this war against the dark forces. Not to mention, the book has one of the most dastardly and most-hated villains of all time: Dolores Umbridge.

Ok. Hear me out. Out of all the Harry Potter books, this one is the most fun to me. Not necessarily the best written or the most complex, but fun. And that’s all due to the Triwizard Tournament! The different events, puzzles, and challenges Harry has to endure are just nuts! And it really gets your blood pumping wondering what’s next.

Another aspect of this book I really enjoyed was the introduction of the other wizarding schools. There’s a whole wizarding world in the Harry Potter universe, and this was our first real glimpse into something other than Hogwarts.

This is the book that started it all. Yer a wizard, Harry! I just remember reading this book when I was younger and imagining Hagrid coming to get me next! Mind you, I wasn’t forced to live in a cupboard under the stairs, but might have volunteered to do so if we had one. Sorcerer’s Stone as a standalone book is a home run. No doubt about it.

The main reason why it’s towards the bottom of my list is that…this book is just too childish for me compared to the others. Don’t get me wrong, it’s supposed to be. But just like the characters mature throughout the series, so did my tastes.

Although I call this the worst Harry Potter book, it isn’t a bad book by any means. Just compared to the rest of the series… It gets overshadowed. And here’s why I think so.

It really doesn’t add to much depth to the character’s. As the series progresses, each book adds more into the character development. With this one…not so much. It’s like a rehashing of the first book. I think if the Harry Potter series stopped at three books, this would have been a more effective an installment. But in a full seven book series, Chamber of Secrets becomes a weak link.

What Order Should I read the Harry Potter Books In?

This is a very often asked question. The straightforward answer is….read them in chronological order. Unlike some literary or cinematic universes (MCU, I’m looking at you), the Harry Potter books need to be read in order. There are so many important plot points and rely heavily on things that happen in previous books.

So, here’s the proper order to read the books:

What’s the difference between the Sorcerer’s Stone and the Philosopher’s Stone?

When searching for the first Harry Potter book, you’re likely to come across two versions.

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

In essence, they are the exact same book. They only have different titles. The original title for the book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. However, J. K. Rowling changed the title to Sorcerer’s Stone for American audiences because she thought the US would associate Philosopher’s Stone with some old, boring teacher (i.e. Socrates, Plato–which aren’t not so boring to me) and not magic.

Turned out to be a great move on Rowling’s part.

Hogwarts House Explained

In the Potterverse, Hogwarts students are sorted into respective houses during their first year welcoming feast. These houses are representative of the four original Hogwarts founders being:

• Godric Gryffindor
• Helga Hufflepuff
• Rowena Ravenclaw
• Salazar Slytherin

Now, as far as the books go, you’ll see some common trends. Good guys come from Gryffindor. Bad guys from Slytherin.

But that’s not always the case. Each house values different traits for their members to have. Let’s take a look.

• Gryffindor- Courage, Honor, Bravery, Chivalry, and Reserve. The mascot for Gryffindor is the Lion and is closely affiliated with the element of fire.
• Hufflepuff- Hard Work, Justice, Loyalty, Patience, and Hospitality. The mascot for Hufflepuff is the Badger and is closely affiliated with the element of earth.
• Ravenclaw- Intelligence, Wisdom, Logic, and Creativity. The mascot for Ravenclaw is the Eagle and is closely affiliated with the element of air.
• Slytherin- Ambition, Leadership, Cunning, Drive, and Resourcefulness. The mascot for Slytherin is the serpent and is closely affiliated with the element of water.

The house sorting process is one of the most anticipated parts of each book. It’s performed by using a magical hat known as the Sorting Hat which when placed upon the head can read into a student’s personality and destiny. Once the Sorting Hat’s got a good read, it loudly proclaims for all to hear which house the student will be sorted into.

This doesn’t mean that the student doesn’t have any choice in the matter. During Harry Potter’s sorting, the hat was torn between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Potter would have made a wonderful candidate for Slytherin. He’s pureblood wizard, a born leader, and a parseltongue (aka he talks to snakes). But during his sorting, Harry could only think one thing….Not Slytherin. The hat honored his request, and Harry Potter found his home in Gryffindor.

Let’s face it. Sometimes, we just need a good lamp at a good price. Nothing too fancy, and definitely not too expensive. This lamp is just right. Our best budget floor lamp is the Simple Designs Home Mother-Daughter floor lamp. But just because it’s cheap, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some useful features.

Factors to consider when purchasing a reading lamp for the floor

Make sure to do your research before purchasing any floor lamps. This can prevent a lot of headache and regret. No need to be left in the dark on these issues.

What do Voltage Ratings Mean?

Is your lamp rated for 110V? Maybe 220V? Why is this so important? Most places in the United States operate off of a 110V power grid. So… when you plug in a device rated for 220V, you will not receive the full capacity of the product. Not only that, but the device will pull more electricity in order to try and run it.

This can lead to an increase in power bills. The device may begin to fail over time as well. You see, with reduced voltages, a higher current must be drawn in to compensate. This can start to break down the electrical components of your lamp leading to failure.

Plugging a 110V device into a 220V socket is much more spectacular. The 110V can receive up to 4x the amount of electricity it is rated for. An exploding light bulb is a minimal effect. This can cause severe damage to the lamp itself. Your lamp may no longer be able to work. On top of that… it’s a huge fire safety risk.

What exactly are lumens? According to lumens.com, lumens are:

“a unit of luminous flux in the International System of Units, that is equal to the amount of light given out through a solid angle by a source of one-candela intensity radiating equally in all directions.”

In layman’s terms, lumens equate to brightness!

But wait… doesn’t watts mean brightness too? In short, no. Watts are actually a measurement of how much energy is used. You see, back in the day, there were very limited styles of lightbulbs. Pretty much two categories.

1. It worked.
2. It didn’t work.

Actually, it was mostly just incandescent bulbs. As these bulbs, drew more energy they were able to get brighter. Thus more watts… more light.

Nowadays, things are different. With the introduction of LED bulbs to the playground, lumens and watts have begun to separate themselves. Ideally, you want to find higher lumens with a lower wattage rating.

It’s definitely become much easier with the assortment of bulbs out there.

Bulb Types for Floor Lamps

Luckily for us, there are many alternatives out there to standard incandescent bulbs.

Halogen

• Halogen bulbs are quickly becoming the standard for replacing existing incandescent bulbs. Out of all the light bulbs types, Halogen bulbs emit the most natural light to that similar to actual daylight. They are more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs, but are more expensive and burn hotter.

Fluorescent

• These bulbs you will normally find in office and commercial buildings. They produce a large amount of flat blue light and last a very long time. These are an economical choice for brightening up basements and attics.

CFL

• These bulbs–although more expensive– are a good choice of a lightbulb for household use. They on average last ten times longer than incandescent bulbs and save 4 times the amount of energy. When these bulbs do burn out, remember they can be recycled.

LED

• These are the most recent lights to hit the market. More importantly, they are the most efficient lightbulb in terms of energy and tend to last next to forever. However, there are some drawbacks with these bulbs. At the moment, LEDs can only provide directional light emissions. This means they need to be clustered or provided with reflective guides in order to illuminate a whole room.

And truth be told, this list doesn’t need another recliner (although I do have one more that is cheaper) because this thing does it all. As far as reclining capabilities go, the Irene House can be laid back to a fully horizontal position. So if after all that reading you need a nap…done. Just make sure to set your book inside one the chairs handy side pockets that way it doesn’t slip through the cracks. But what really makes this comfy leather recliner special is its power motor. Ok. I’m going to go on record to say this. Everyone loves a big ole Papasan chair–even if you think you don’t or never sat in one, you do. With that out of the way, let’s just talk about how awesome this round reading chair is. This Rattan Wicker chair is made up of extra sturdy rattan weaving. So while this chair is super lightweight (comparatively), it’s also very strong. And…this thing swivels and rocks as well. The biggest gripe I have about this chair is that it’s pretty pricey as far as Papasans go. But it is 100% worth the cost. Okay, I will admit, I love these barrel-style accent chairs. I see them and I just have to sit down and experience that feeling of being hugged by a chair. So I had a chair like these in college…before I broke it. Don’t judge, I had a few too many potato chips back in those days. Okay so I had a recliner option above, but that one was extremely expensive, and I can see how some people might not need all the bells and whistles that that one provided. Best Reading Chairs Buyer’s Guide–Everything You Should Consider

There are number of factors you should consider when choosing the best reading chair for your home. As much as I want to say just buy the most comfortable one…. That would be terrible advice.

Because buying a chair is more than just buying comfort. You’re literally investing money into your entire home!

That being said, let’s go over some key attributes to consider when buying a reading chair.

Size of the Reading Chair

Sorry guys, size matters. When it comes to your reading chair, of course.

You need to know just much space you can/need to afford for your chair. Me, in my apartment, can’t go off and grab the largest most comfy chair I can find. I have limited space restrictions. I still need to put a sweet lamp and reading light in among other things. But sometimes t might be best to go a little bigger. If you have a large living room with some tiny little chair in the corner…it may be mistaken for the dunce corner and not a reading nook.

Materials and Construction

This is critical. If you buy cheap, chances are you’ll get cheaper materials. Not to say that’s a bad thing. Sometimes you don’t need a super awesome chair. But let’s just say you need to make consideration for a larger weight capacity. I just don’t think a thin aluminum frame is going to hold 300 pounds. At that point you’ll want to consider a sturdy hardwood design.

But it’s not just the frame composition you need to be aware of. It’s the reading chair material covering. Are you opting for leather? Or cloth? Or a polyester blend? While cloth may be cheaper, it is more prone to staining, rips, and burns. Polyester has a nice balance to it; however, a bad poly blend can make the chair not very breathable.  And leather, while pretty tough to stain and a much longer chair life, is much more expensive and requires special maintenance.

There are other materials out there so be sure to consider your options.

Ideal Reading Chair Style Considerations

Here’s the thing…if you’re looking at a potential reading chair and saying, “Nah…that ain’t my style”, don’t buy the chair.

No matter how comfy it may be, you’re not going to be able to appreciate it as much. You might actually decide it was a giant waste of money. Try and find a chair that blends well with your current style. Or a style you’re currently building into. And if you’re into Feng Shui… you better do some research. It would be a shame for you to get one chair just to sell it later to find another.

Reclining or Non

This is another personal preference you need to look at. My best reading chair would not be a reclining chair. But…. That’s just me. If you want a recliner, more power to you!

Reclining options can be nice. They give you so much more mobility and even snoozing options–always good to snooze. But I’m not a fan because they are more difficult to clean, I’m always dropping my keys or phone down those little cracks, and they tend to be a bit heavier to move around.

Comfort

Last, but not least… comfort. If a chair hurts your back or is otherwise not fun to sit in–DON’T GET IT. That simple.

So, What Actually is Blue Light?

Ok. Picture this. Light can be represented on a rainbow scale.

You remember ROY G BIV from elementary school, right? If not… here’s a quick refresher.

R- Red

O- Orange

Y- Yellow

G- Green

Now. Follow me here. Time to get our science on.

Science of Blue Light

Light has been observed to move in wave-like patterns. When represented on a graph, it looks a little something like this:

The upper most points are called the crests.

These crests are very important for determining wavelength. Because wavelengths are measured by the distance from one crest to another.

Back to those colors. It has been also observed that colors at the beginning of the rainbow– i.e. Red and Orange– have longer wavelengths.

That means that the waves are less intense due to a fewer number of waves transmitted in any given amount of time.

On the other hand, colors at the end of the rainbow– i.e. Blue, Indigo, and Violet– have much shorter wavelengths.

This means that these shorter wavelength colors are much more intense due to a higher number of waves transmitted in any given amount of time.

So, BLUE LIGHT is a high intensity, high energy form of light. But the most inconvenient part of this is… Blue light falls on the visible light spectrum (not all light is visible–different lesson for a different time).

And it’s becoming more and more common.

As I mentioned earlier, your favorite devices and gadgets may be causing more harm to you than you know.

You see, one of the most common sources of blue light is through LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).

LEDs today are found pretty much everywhere. From flashlights, to light bulbs, to your television set. Why is that? Because they are a wonderful source of pure bright light.

Other common sources of blue light from LEDs come from:

• Cell phones
• Computers
• Tablets
• E-readers
• Digital Clocks
• Smart watches

Essentially, any gadget with a backlit screen. Now, you may not stare at your digital clock for hours on end. But cell phones, computers, tablets, and e-readers pose an actual credible risk for overexposure to blue light.

Repeated and prolonged exposure to blue light can begin to damage the light-sensitive cells of your retina. This leads to macular degeneration, a symptom when unchecked can lead to permanent vision reduction or loss.

Increases Digital Eye Stress

• The intensity of blue light can do more than just affect the retina. The short wavelengths actually cause the light to scatter more across a surface. This scattering effect (also known as Rayleigh scattering) can cause your eyes to not focus as well as they should. The TruVision is BY FAR the best reading sunglasses item on the list. It checks all of the style, comfort, durability, and pricing boxes.

If I had one criticism of this pair, it would be that it lacked polarization. But, given the rest of the package, this isn’t a major issue.

I’ve tried a few different types of blue light glasses, but these Readerest Glasses are truly unique. Should you Get Reading Glasses?

Do you even need reading glasses? In all reality, if you think you do… You probably do.

Why?

Because you’re probably seeing (or not) all the signs!

Here are just a few ways to tell if you need reading glasses:

• Are words and images blurry when you are reading? Do you need to hold the book farther away to see them?
• Do you find yourself struggling to read small print in dim light? Or are you purchasing large print books?
• Are you experiencing headaches when reading?
• Or do your eyes hurt when doing anything up close such as typing or sewing?

These are classic signs that you need to be looking for some reading glasses.

Good reading glasses: what to look for when buying

There are many factors you should check before buying a pair of reading glasses.

Style

There are two primary styles of reading glasses.

Full Frame

With full frame glasses, the entirety of the lenses are made with the prescription. This is useful for those who spend a lot of their time reading or doing up close work.

Half Frame

These are the similar to the bifocals Old Ben Franklin created. These are useful for those who only need to look at up close things sparingly. Afterwards you can look above or around the lens for clearer vision for far distances.

Prescription Strength

Reading glasses are normally much less intensive than your standard corrective lenses. They often graduate in terms of .25 power grades starting at extremely low strengths. The lowest is at 1.00 diopter whereas the strongest is at right about 4.00 diopters.

The goal is to choose the one with the lowest number that works for you.

You can determine this by trying on a few pairs and attempting to read a magazine. Hold it about 14 inches away from your face and put on the glasses. Do they help? Is it sharp enough or do you need a little more oomph?

And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but… Your vision is more than likely to only get worse as time goes on. If you start experiencing some of the previous signs again… It’s probably time to up your grade.

So I’ll admit, I bought a pair of Aviator sunglasses a while back. They weren’t reading sunglasses, but were prescription instead. But I still love them, because Aviators are just the best.

Polarization is a huge priority for a lot of people, because they want to avoid glare, so I made sure to add one of those on here.

As an added perk, these are also wraparound sports glasses. If that’s a problem, it’s not too hard to find a polarized sunglass that is more your style, but I thought these were generally the best option for polarization.

I love the look of a good wraparound sports sunglasses. So I knew when I started writing this post that I needed to get one of these on the list.

We already had one of these on the list above, in the polarized section, but I thought I’d spread the love and put another on here, because I love them so much.

This pair is different from the above because it’s also a pair of bifocals. So you get the advantage of near-vision eyeglasses combined with more progressive lenses.

Types of Reading Sunglasses

There are a lot of different types of reading sunglasses, and different lens types, everything from blue-light blocking to polarized lenses, and a ton of different shapes.

And that’s not to mention all the different brands out there, which I won’t get into here, but you can find all sorts of resources about that online.

But let’s take a look at the different types of reading sunglasses:

• Polarized Reading Sunglasses: Polarized lenses are meant to reduce glare from the sun on flat surfaces, meaning that if you look at a window, and the sun is shining on that window, you’ll see through it clearer than if you didn’t have polarized lenses. This is particularly useful for driving.
• Bifocal Reading Sunglasses: A standard among reading glasses, bifocal sunglasses contain two lenses, one meant for magnifying near objects, and the other meant for longer-distance viewing.
• Progressive Reading Sunglasses: Progressive sunglasses are a lot like bifocals, meaning they have differing types of vision, one for near-vision magnification, and one for distance vision. But unlike bifocals, they don’t have the annoying lines that divide up the two lenses. Instead, there’s a gradation between the two.
• Full-lens Reading Sunglasses: A full-lens reading glass is one that is 100% magnification. So that little tiny lens you see in the bottom of a bifocal, take that and make the entire lens out of it. These are great for magnification if reading is all you’re doing, but not always great for versatility.

What to Consider When Buying Reading Sunglasses

In general, when I’m selecting sunglasses, there are a few factors that I consider. They are (in this order):

1. Functionality: are they polarized or not? Do they efficiently protect my eyes from UV light? Is the magnification good?
2. Comfort: How do they fit on my face? Do I get a headache from using them? Are they lightweight?
3. Style: Do they look good? Would I feel embarrassed wearing these at the beach or in the park? Do they fit my chosen aesthetic?
4. Price: Are they worth all the extra features? Is it a good bang for my buck? Would it be better to pay extra for a prescription?

Last but not least, I had to get a nice comfortable item on this list. This pillow makes me just want to hug it all day. It’s so soft and fluffy!

Generally speaking, the Harry Potter books, written by J. K. Rowling, are meant for younger readers. The first one clearly started out as a middle-grade novel, but by the time book seven rolled around they had progressed to something more like YA, and the audience had grown up with it.

So it’s clear that each book is more appropriate for an older audience than the one before it. That said, it’s still mostly enjoyable for the whole family, and if you have kids that are 8 or older, I highly recommend you introduce them to the first book so they can get started.

So to get us thinking more on this, I’ve developed a guide to the reading level of each Harry Potter book. I’ve done this by focusing on two things:

1. The complexity of the text, aka the readability
2. The maturity of the content

Because once you get to book four or so, things start to get a little darker in a way that I wouldn’t recommend for young kids.

That said, it’s the shortest and easiest read of the lot.

While this book continues the peril and themes of death that you see in the first book, it’s relatively tame, and there’s only one action scene towards the end of the book.

Chamber of Secrets is very much at the same level as Sorcerer’s Stone, and therefore isn’t a hard read for most children. It’s Lexile measure is 940L, meaning that most children age 8+ will be able to read it.

This book opens up the Wizarding World a bit to show us the prison of Azkaban, and it also introduces to us the Dementors, which may be a bit scary for your younger children.

By this point, you should gauge if your kid has had a problem with the first two books. If they have, it might not be safe to venture from this point until they’re a little older, because the Dementors can be quite frightening.

However, the actual reading level is actually easier than Chamber of Secrets, with a Lexile level of only 880L. So in that sense, if your child could read the first two books with no problem, they’re be just fine.

So, while the Lexile text measure for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the same as the last book, it is also quite a bit longer. So that could be a hang-up for children with short attention spans. It can take a while to get through this book.

Additionally, Goblet encounters more mature themes, particularly at the end of the book that could be frightening for children. It involves the death of a hero, which is the first time we’ve seen a non-villain die in the series, and it can be a little traumatic for certain readers.

That said, this book contains a tournament that almost gamifies the text, making you want to read on, so if your younger reader has enjoyed the first three books, they’ll probably want to speed right through this one, especially if they’re at the right age range or grade level, or they’re just an accelerated reader.

It’s with Order of the Phoenix that the reading level really begins to rise, and this is the point where I would really evaluate if vocabulary and content are suitable for your child, or if they require a higher reading level.

Order of the Phoenix is the darkest of the books so far, with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and every student of Hogwarts school resulting in severe psychological repercussions to the events of the previous year.

It’s darker, and the Lexile reader measure is higher, so you’ll want to consider letting your child grow before tackling this one, and that’s only going to go up from here.

We’re starting to get a little older here with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which deals with a lot more mature themes of death, and it also starts to get a little older with some romance themes. Lots of kissy-kissy faces. That began in the last book, but it hits its stride in this one.

But it’s definitely darker, and the Lexile scale is also higher than average. So you’ll want to be cautious before giving this to your 8 year old. Instead, this is best suited for kids that are 11 and up.

Lastly, the seventh Harry Potter book is by far the darkest, and a lot of horrible things happen to various characters that we’ve grown to love over the course of the novels. So in that sense, you’ll want to make sure your child is ready for more death, mutilation, abuse, and more of hat nature.

From a reading level, it’s no worse than any of the others. In fact, the literacy level required is less than the previous book. But it’s also gone far beyond a simple chapter book at this point. It’s a longer book (just like the last three), and could take your child a while to finish it, depending on their reading practice.

Then again, I finished it in all of one sleepless night back in 2007 when it came out.

The Bottom Line

While the Harry Potter books are best for readers who are at least 8 years old to start out, and at least 12 years old by the time you get to the final books, you are ultimately the best judge of what they can and can’t handle.

Standardized tests and the like can determine a reading level, but when it comes to content, you are the best judge. Because it honestly depends on their life experiences up to this point, and what you think they can handle.

Overall, I think the Harry Potter series is fine for most kids over the age of 10, and often even younger. Though with the Harry Potter films, I’d maybe wait until they’re a little older. Especially for the Fantastic Beasts films or any of the films that are rated PG-13.

Simply put, you only need about 25 to 50 lumens to read without difficulty. However, the light should be directly focused on your reading area. Otherwise, it won’t matter if you use a 500 MW light bulb.

As a result, it lights one section of the room efficiently more than any other.

Do you want to understand brightness even more? Think of it as water flowing through a pipe. The amount of water that flows is the lumen. However, you cannot use the water properly if it does not have direction.

For example, let’s say that you want to wash your car. You would want the water to flow directly toward your car, right? The same goes for watering your plants in the garden. You would want the water to work on the whole space equally.

This is how lumens and brightness works. If you want your reading to be brighter, you have to focus the light source directly onto your space.

The next question would be how to light up your reading area properly. How much brightness do you think your reading area might need from one bulb? To answer this, you should look into the specific amount of lumens that your light source has. Next, you have to think about how focused those lumens are.

As mentioned earlier, the distance of the light source from your reading area is also one consideration. Before buying a reading lamp, make sure that you only compare lumens between similar light sources. For example, you cannot compare the amount of light coming from a reading lamp to a flashlight.

Aside from the lumens, you also have to consider the focus and direction of the light. By comparing two similar light sources, you will be able to compare its brightness through the luminescence.

This is because both contraptions have the same light focus. So, make sure that you compare the same brand of both lights and bulbs. This way, you will get an accurate measurement of brightness and lumens.

As mentioned earlier, different light sources and brands can vary when it comes to lumens. This is why you would have to look for a brand that has a specific number of lumens mentioned above.

Will Size Affect The Brightness of the Light Source?

No. However, the wattage does affect the amount of lumens that it produces. The more wattage you have, the longer you can use the light. If you want to save on electricity, use a light bulb with low wattage but more lumens. This way, it will be brighter even if you use it for extended periods.

How Will the Watts Affect the Lumens?

The wattage refers to the amount of electricity you consume when using the light source. The more wattage you have, the more lumens the light source can produce. Depending on the products, there are also a specific number of lumens that you can use as well.

Incandescent or LED Lights: Which One is Better for Reading?

Cooler lights tend to disrupt your sleeping patterns. If you want to read before bedtime, it would be best to use warmer tones for your bedside lamps. It’s all about the light color and not the type of fixtures. Both LED at incandescent bulbs can work for as long as the light source is focused and warmer to the eyes.

The only difference between the two would be that there is a lot of consumption. If you want to save money on electricity bills, choose to use LED lights during bedtime. LED lights are known to be more economic in design and function.

Which Light Color Should I Use for Bedtime Reading?

As mentioned earlier, warmer tones would be good for nighttime reading. If you love reading at night, it is important that you choose the light source that has warmer tones and colors. Yellow and green will be able to work for you. If you want to wake up early, switch to cooler colors for your light source.

When trying to find the best reading lamps for your night time activities, there are certain considerations that you need to make. These are as follows:

First, you have to look into the company’s reputation. Make sure that you will be able to get products from a company that has a good reputation when it comes to delivery and customer support.

Secondly, you have to look at the price. Buy something that you can afford. While it is important to look at the quality of the products, your budget is another consideration that you need to make sure. Purchasing a book stand doesn’t have to be the most difficult decision in your life. Let’s take a look at a few factors to consider when purchasing a book stand to make your process a little easier.

Height and Weight

When purchasing a book stand, you must take into consideration the dimensions that you need. Some book stands are great for tabletop reading, while others excel for other places. But what is the ideal height for you?

Did you know that if you focus on something too close to your eyes that you are putting undue strain on them? Or that looking at something too far away does the same? For example, you use your book stand in the kitchen to hold up your recipe book. You are making your Grandma’s world famous chicken pot pie. YUM! Now, in this recipe, it calls for cleaning and preparing a whole chicken. As those who cook know… cleaning a chicken can get a little dirty sometimes. But that’s ok. We can just clean it up, right? Well, yes and no.

Let’s just say some of that chicken juice went flying and got onto your book stand. With wooden or bamboo book stands… this may not be desirable. Pilot considers these FriXion erasable markers as the first marker pen that can be completely erased! I got excited about this because nowhere else can we find marker pens that can be gone without a trace.

It comes in a handy tube circumference too, which fits well in your hands to make writing smoother. I like how I can use the pen with the cap secure on the other side so I can just flip the pen when I need to erase a word or two.
